Quality over QuantityChallenges faced by employees in labour accommodations (and how we fixed it)
Labour is the backbone of any part of an operation. However, their well-being is also the most commonly underappreciated and overlooked part of any operation. More times than not, the slaving workforce is flooded by obstacles in their living space that hinder their ability to perform, and in turn jeopardize their position in the eyes of the employer. In the following article, we take a look at some of the major challenges faced by the labour in their accommodation and how we here at Kingpin have solved it:
Imagine coming back to your accommodation after a grueling day of work to see the place looking and smelling nasty. This is the last thing anyone would ever want to face, especially someone who’s as exhausted as a labour. This problem is so common in labour accommodations that are not well managed. And, according to many labours, this was the leading culprit for their under performance with any of their previous accommodations.
To properly mitigate this problem, we have employed clean-up teams who come in and fix the accommodation at their designated times. Moreover, we offer periodical pest control to rule out the risk of any infection to the employees.
2. UNORGANIZED AND UNDER-EQUIPPED KITCHENS
Another common problem that employees face while living in the labour accommodation is the disorganized and under-stocked kitchen. This includes the kitchen stove and pipelines not being connected properly, a lack of cooking utensils, lock of pantry space, a lack of space for the employee to move around and more. Moreover, the limited number of stoves for the number of employees housed in the accommodation is also a major issue.
Our solution is simple – we offer a wide range if accommodation options equipped with multi-stove kitchens and ample workspace for the labour to move around and store their ingredients and utensils.
3. LACK OF PROPER VENTILATION
It comes as no surprise that the weather can get unbearably hot in Dubai. But what makes it even more unbearable is living in a home that’s stuffy and difficult to breathe in. The lack of proper ventilation can become a prominent challenge for the labour in their accommodation. With the blaring heat and the added discomfort of not being able to breathe well, it is unlikely that the labour will be able to recover well and perform at maximum capacity on the next day of work.
This is, however, rarely a problem when it comes to our accommodations in Dubai since they’re located in areas that are well-ventilated and not obstructed by any other architecture.
4. LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF HOT WATER
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Dubai can become really cold during the winter months. But the labour continues to work around town for the most part. Maintenance of a proper hot water supply in the accommodation during these trying times is absolutely essential for the labour. At Kingpin Properties, all of our accommodations are equipped with proper, state-ofthe-art water heaters that are periodically maintained to ensure proper function. We ensure your employees that hot water will be the least of their worries during their stay
5. DISTURBANCES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The locality surrounding the accommodation is an often unaddressed problem when it comes to the well-being of the labour. Unnecessary loud noises, petty crime or general unrest within the community can greatly impair both the morale of the labour as well as his peace-of-mind. An inherent fix for this is the fact that we have our accommodations built in the more sane neighborhoods available. All our properties in Jabel Ali, Al Quoz, Al Khawaneej, Sonapur and Dubai Investment Park are placed around great locations in wonderful communities.
A well known yet rarely acknowledged fact is that unhappy employees can cost your company millions. So, at Kingpin Properties, we are dedicated to give your employees the highest level of satisfaction not just for their sake, but for the sake of your business as well. The last thing we want is for all your work and planning to go down the drain for something as meager and manageable as basic accommodation upkeep.
